Our Coffee: How We Brew Local Fave, La Barba
Serving delicious coffee at our B&B was a top priority from day one. Back in 2020 when we bought the B&B, we inherited a Keurig machine, Costco K cups, and some weird mugs that said “Nature” with various western animals on them. The mugs might’ve worked in a cool mountain cabin, but the coffee worked nowhere. We swiftly set out for a better, locally roasted, coffee source & brewing options.
Our Drip
After some trials through our first year, we landed landed on a delicious drip coffee match made in heaven: local Salt Lake City La Barba’s “House” beans brewed in a Technivorm Moccamaster. La Barba has a number of locations of their own in the city, as well as other businesses/coffee shops like ours that use their beans. Whatever they’re doing over there at their Roastery - they are nailing it. Their House blend - with notes of milk chocolate, toffee, and almond - brews so perfectly without acid undertones, just pure smooth flavor. The Dutch-made Technivorm Moccamaster comes in number of sizes, and has a well-earned cult following. We coarsely grid our beans and brew them thru one of these style filters in the machine. Comes out perfect - Cafe and B&B guests agree!
Our Espresso
For espresso, we use La Barba's “Standard Espresso” Blend with notes of almond, molasses, and cherry. These beans turn to rich crema-topped espresso on our Breville Barista Pro Espresso machine. This machine is incredibly mighty. If you can believe it, we run our whole weekend cafe with of two of these side by side. I know, I know!
The Breville Barista Pro Espresso is a workhorse that can pull high quality shots at a high volume, and yet, is simple enough for a new-to-espresso user to figure out in their home kitchen. We use it in our home kitchen too!
